New Brunswick, New Jersey-- New Brunswick City Market (NBCM) recently presented awards in three separate categories to two local businesses and a community program, during its 30th Annual Board of Directors' meeting held on May 23, 2018.
"As in years past, City Market is once again pleased to honor the contributions of local businesses and community initiatives," said Pamela Stefanek, NBCM Executive Director. "These awards demonstrate our desire to highlight and work closely with folks who make New Brunswick such a great place in which to live and work,"
The Business Improvement Award acknowledges an S.I.D. establishment (new or existing) that has enhanced their business through facade improvements, business practices, or customer experience. This year Roosterspin (120 Albany Street), was acknowledged for interior improvements, innovation, creativity, and the inclusion of two private karaoke rooms. Just over a year after opening its doors in New Brunswick, it has become famous statewide not only as a Karaoke Bar, but also for its fine Korean fare and small-plate dining options. The award was accepted by owner Mihae Cho.
The "Ritter" Award, presented to a business that has celebrated over 25 years in the business district, was accepted by Gary Hoagland, of Hoagland Longo, LLC (40 Patterson Street). In business for over 40 years, Hoagland, Longo, Moran, Dunst, and Doukas, LLC has grown from a small local business into a respected regional firm with over 85 attorneys handling cases ranging from complex litigation to family law.
The recipient of the Community Program Award was New Brunswick Ciclovia, a global movement that began locally in 2013 and has expanded to two event routes three times a year, with over 15,000 participants. The event brings residents out to the streets to celebrate the community's diversity through active lifestyles, promoting wellness and better health. The award was received by Manuel Castaneda of New Brunswick Tomorrow.
In other business, Interim Chairman Bruce Carnegie (Red Hawk Realty) was named Chairman of the Board of NBCM, and five new Board Members were announced: Joselyn Lopez (Sofi's Accessories); Michael Parker (Fatto Americano); Doug Schneider (Tavern on George); Pastor Cynthia Stouffer (United Methodist Church); and Elizabeth Barrood (Barrood Insurance).
